At FruitNeighbor, an Oakland CA based start up, we believe that every backyard holds the potential to nourish not just one household, but an entire neighborhood. Our mission is to build local urban agricultural ecosystems. Reinforcing a type of Agroecological Urbanism. Building communities where everyone can grow and share fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs locally – for free. By simply posting, viewing, and connecting with neighbors with the first fruit-sharing map-based app, we are taking steps toward fostering  resilient and healthy neighborhoods during uncertain challenging times. Regardless of your background, where you live or work, our goal is to make healthy food more accessible for all. Encouraging restorative and regenerative urban agriculture by strengthening local soil, reducing food waste, and fostering biodiversity right where we live.
 
Our platform addresses food justice by bringing fresh, free produce into food deserts and underserved areas, while celebrating the socio-cultural diversity already growing in our communities; from Meyer lemons to curry leaves, and figs to spinach. We would like to make urban planting, growing, and harvesting more immersive and meaningful by connecting growers with grateful neighbors, sparking conversations, stories, and relationships across fences. Breaking down individualistic consumption patterns and building collective knowledge through peer-to-peer exchange. Encouraging  spaces where communities control their own food systems by utilizing technology to bring visibility to existing abundance and creating a coordinated collective action.

Ultimately, FruitNeighbor is about more than food. It’s about transforming dispersed backyard abundance into a neighborhood-scale food commons grounded in solidarity, ecological stewardship, and food sovereignty.
